Waikato Sow For Awanui Club
Commercial
G. W. Vercoe and Co., Ltd., report having held their fifth annual combined breeders’ pedigree and grade pig sale at Claudelands on July 13 and 14. There was a good attendance of buyers from the Waikato, the North, Taranaki and Rotorua. The pedigree entries came forward in good condition but did not meet with the response anticipated. The demand was excellent for Tam worth sows in pig, but buyers discriminated in their choice of Berkshire boars and sows in pig; only the best and most forward eliciting good competition, more backward sows not being in demand. Berkshire boars were sought at comparatively low prices, the best boars being up to 12 guineas. Good bidding was received for the small entry of large whites. Mr Geo. Jamieson’s pedigree entry of 11 Tamworth sows in pig sold under keen competition at prices ranging from 11£ gns. to 17 gns. The Okoia Dairy Company of Wanganui paid the top price of 17 gns. for a choice Tamworth sow in pig. The Awanui Pig Club purchased another excellent sow at 14 gns.
