Anglo - Australian Trade; No Full Pact
(Received noon). LONDON, July 18. The end of the trade discussions between Britain, and Australia are in sight. They are accompanied by a last-minute rush, says the political correspondent of the Australian Associated Press. The Ministers met at the Dominion’s office this morning for nearly three hours and later adjourned to attend Buckingham Palace garden, where, with their wives, they had afternoon tea with the Queen. They will resume discussions at 6 p.m. It is thought possible there may be a further meeting tomorrow to enable a conclusion of the ministerial deliberations to be reduced before the Australian delegation depart for the unveiling of the War Memoidal at Villers Bretonneux, leaving the officials to complete details. Statement This Week? Sir Earle Page, leader of the Australian delegation, hopes to make a comprehensive statement before the week-end, pending which he will telegraph drafts to Canada. He will embark at Glasgow for Canada on July 30. It is intimated this morning that while the outlook is slightly more satisfactory for Australia than it was last week, there are no prospects of the full agreement originally sought. A comprehensive revision of the trade position must await an agreement between Britain and America, and the American congressional election in November, after which the delegation will return to London.
