Preparing For Bay Power

A meeting oi‘ the Bay o £ Islands Power Board held at Kaitaia on Saturday was presided over by the chairman. Mr A. E. Bissol. The Local Government Loans Board wrote cementing to the raising of a loan by way of overdraft of £4575 as at March 31 next, the amount to cover £4OOO applied for, together with the amount of the previous overdraft. A letter was also received authorising the raising of £50,000 of the £ gOO.Ot.O lean up to March 31 next. A*, saviation Membership. The secretary to the Electric Power Board’s and Supply Authorities Association of New Zealand wrote suggesting that Ihe Bay of Islands Board join up with the association, and pointing out the advantages to be derived, particularly concerning the raising of loans. The subscription would be £7 7, -. Mr Williams, the board’s solicitor, said the service given was very similar to that made available by the Counties’ Association and might save the board a good deal of expense when legal advice was required on any question. It was decided to join the association. Mr Lomax (Northlandßadios. Ltd.). Kaikohe, was granted a permit for an electric installation. Supply of Milking Engines? Mr E. E. Brown (Okaihau) wrote inquiring how long it would be before power from the board was available. He did not wish to put in an oil engine for milking if electric power would be available soon. The secretary: It might be advisable for the board to provide engines for temporary use in such cases. Mr Mandeno: That would assist in getting guarantees. The matter was left in the hands of the secretary. A number of applications for different 'positions were received and it was decided to hold these over for consideration until the new secretarytreasurer was appointed. Tenders For Materials. The consulting engineer was instructed to invite tenders for materials for the construction of power lines, power stations and other supplies immediately required. A motion was passed that the P.W.D. be asked to put in hand as early as possible the construction of the power line from Maungatapere to Pamapuria. Mr Mandeno said_ the department would make no difficulty about starting, but would want the agreement with the board finalised first. The engineer' was authorised to have a draft of an agreement with the Public Works Department for the supply of power prepared, the agreement to embody the proposals agreed to at the last meeting in respect to the points of supply, etc. Monthly Meetings. Regular meetings of the board were fixed for the fourth Friday in each month. Mr Ellery was authorised to obtain details and options over properties at Kaikohe for offices, depot and a residential site. Messrs Thompsoh, Peace and Bradley were appointed a committee to go into the question of by-laws and report at next meeting.
