Kaitaia B Disappoint
With the showgrounds in perfect order and on an ideal day, the game between Kaitaia B and Awanui was somewhat disappointing. Both sots of backs did far too much running across field, whilst the handling in most cases was not up to standard. Heke Yates, Mangonui’s winger for several seasons, had a day olf in this respect. He missed three kicks that usually would be a certainty for him. The first half was very even, both sides scoring a penalty goal each. Eric Smith kicking Awanui’s from right in front, and Moses Yates piloted the ball between tlie uprights from near the sideline. A wan ui‘s full-back, Jimmy Spanake 'playing great football this season', almost dropped a beautiful goal from well out, but the ball hit; one of the posts to bounce infield. During the second half Awanui gained more than their share of the ball from the scrums, and at times their half. West, ran like a veritable Corner, but usually hung on too long. A few minutes before the end the only try of, iho game came, "Nip” Larnbly cuti.ng out his supports to throw a long
pass to winger Gardener, who just got in at the corner. Mr. Des Barry refereed.
