Excellent Features At Plaza

A first-class schedule of screen entertainment, augmented by the personal appearance of the famous Irish tenor, Mr Dan Foley, makes the current programme at the Plaza one of unusual' merit. The main picture, “Air Devils,” a fast action drama of the Pacific Islands, depicting the life and work of the United States outpost constabulary, has a captivating theme which keeps the audience in suspense throughout. With two one-time marines, “Horseshoe” (Larry Blake) and “Slats” (Dick Purcell) bidding for the hand of the fair jungle visitor, Beryl Wallace, a hilarious situation develops, coming to a climax when the two rivals made a parachute descent upon the marauding renegade forces. The drama is crowded with thrills and humour throughout, and is well supplemented by shorts including news, travelogue and a cartoon. Round after round of applause greeted Dan Foley on Saturday night when he rendered a selection of Irish and other popular songs. Highlights of his rendition on Saturday night were “Little Devil Dancing,” the rebel song, “Shall My Soul Pass Through Ireland,” “Silver Hair and Heart of Gold,” and “Father O’Flynn.” Mr Foley left no doubt among those in the audience that he is one of the most talented tenors ever to appear on a New Zealand stage. He has just completed a series of important broadcast engagements. and this evening, when he will make his farewell appearance at the Plaza Theatre, will sing request and other numbers.
