S.M. Deplores Disgraceful Result of Maoris ' Drinking
[Special to “Northern Advocate.”! ■ XAITAIA, This Day. yjIAT DRINKING BY NATIVES IN THE NORTH,’ WHICH OFTEN RESULT'S IN DISTURBANCES, IS REGARDED AS SERIOUS. WAS FULLY STRESSED BY MR. G. N. MORRIS, S.M., WHEN DEALING WITH A CASE AT MANGGNUI ON THURSDAY. Inflicting a fine of £3 and costs Mr. Morris-gave a few words of advice to the defendant, slating that he was dealing lejmcnlly with him. but warned him. and advised all present, that the practice of Maoris drinking, fighting and generally making a nuisance of Ihcrjnsclvcs. must cease, and would, as far as he was concerned, be stamped out. The conduct of Maoris in tiie North when drunk was. according lo information he had received, disgraceful, and he would assist the police as far as; possible to stamp it out.
