“Unvarnished Untruth”
[Per Press Association. - Copyright. l WELLINGTON, This Day.
“It is a plain, unvarnished untruth,” declared the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon, M. J. Savage, yesterday, when referring to the London statement that New Zealand’s increased imports are mainly due to foreign motor cars. “If they can show me any period in New Zealand’s history when British manufacturers were doing better from New Zealand than at present I want to hear of it.” said Mr. Savage. “We are also doing better in Britain because the larger quantities We are buying from Britain enable them to buy mere from us. Of course, we won’t be disappointed if wc hear mere of this sort of thing before the elections, but let me tell these people that-the Mew Zealand flag will be at the top of the mast after the election.” Referring to the action of the bankers, Mr. Savage said the only thing for the banks to do today was what they were actually doing.
