Borough Awaits Northland Court Decision
No immediate action is to be taken by the Whangarei Borough Council concerning the proposed Northland Court at the 1940 Centenary celebrations. The council expressed the viewlast night that it was advisable to await the decision of delegates to the Northland Centennial Exhibition Committee. A letter was received from the secretary of the Auckland Provincial Com'mittee of. the Centennial Exhibition stating that it seemed desirable that as wide as possible an area shall bo i represented in one court, because the ! cost of the necessary attendance differed very little whether the court had a large area or a small one, and local bodies would probably find that the staffing of a number of small courts would result in expenditure much greater than would be incurred in a major court embracing the whole provincial 'district. The need for action to be taken in the very near future was urged, as the allocation of space for the courts was being proceeded with already. “This thing is getting serious.” said the Mayor, Mr W. Jones. “Until the meeting is held in Kaikohe we don’t know where we are.” It was decided to leave further consideration until the next council meeting.
