Boisterous Week-end In Whangarei

Whangarei and district experienced one of the most boisterous week-ends | for many months, driving rain being accompanied by a heavy wind which at times reached gale force. Conditions on the WhangareiAuckland highway last night weie very difficult and many motorists had unpleasant experiences. One motorist, driving a small car. declared that on the exposed portions of the Waiwera Hill and other open sections of the road, his car was lifted bodily from the ground on one side, necessitating extreme care in keeping the vehicle on the ground. The weather outside the Whangarei Heads was very boisterous, but it did not have any serious effect on shipping between Whangarei and Auckland. From’ 9 a.m. on Friday until 9 a.m. today 1.42 inch of rain fell, .73 falling in the 24 hours up to 9 o'clock this morning. .G 6 up to 9 a.m. yesterday and .03 inch up to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
