Kaitaia Weather. For the week-end at Kaitaia the weather was wet, squally and cold. On Saturday night there was a severe electric storm for a time and some very heavy showers. * * * » Footballer Injured. Mr Ivan Mclnnes, the Hikurangi forward, when playing against Maungakaramea on Saturday, received knocks simultaneously to the back and front of his head. An ambulance was summoned, and he was taken to the Whangarei District Hospital, where his condition today fs reported to be very good. * * * * Hospital Board To Sell Waikiekie Farm. Steps are to be taken for the sale of an area of 245 at Waikiekie given to the Whangdrei Hospital Board under the will of the late Mr H. J. J. Neville. It was decided at the annual meeting of the board today to seek permission from the Department of Health for the sale of the farm. As soon as permission is obtained, tenders will be called for the purchase of the property. * * * * Charges For Outside Patients. As from June 1 charges are being made by the Whangarei Hospital Board for the treatment of patients from certain portions of the Kaipara Board at the rate of 15/- per day for adults, and 7/6 for children. This amount compares with 12/- apd 6/respectively for local patients. The charge for Kaipara patients in the maternity annexe is now 15/-, as compared with 12/- for local patients.

Whangarei Hospital Fees, Patients’ fees collected during the past financial year amounted to £B7IB compared with £9490 for the previous year, stated Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay, chairman of the Whangarei Hospital Board in his report to the annual meeting of the board today. This amount, however, represented 62 per cent of the fees, while the average collected for the whole Dominion was only 32 per cent.

Mr. Hamilton Meets Supporters At the conclusion of his address in the Town Hall on Saturday night,- the Hon. Hamilton met supporters of the National Party in the Marsden branch rooms, Cameron Street. A decision to stage an Acclimatisation Society Court at the Whangarei Winter Exhibition was arrived at by the council of the Whangarei Acclimatisation Society. Arrangements are in the hands of Mr Bert Parkin. It is proposed to include a model trout hatchery in the exhibit. This should prove a great attraction* to the public. Pupils of the Onerahi school have taken a keen interest in the hatching of trout, and it is expected that they will have a hand in the exhibited hatchery. * # # '•

Building Costs Increase. “Two years ago you could have built a good home for £750,” remarked the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, in the Whangarei Town Hall on Saturday night. “Today such a home is costing at least £IOOO. That is the extent by which the value of money has depreciated under Labour administration, and it will go down still further.”

Saturday Half-Holiday. For the first time, the Saturday half-holiday was observed at Kaitaia last week. Not many shoppers were to be seen about in the morning, and there was not such a large crowd as usual at the Picture Theatre in the evening. Some business people regard the change with disfavour, but it is thought that everybody will soon adjust themselves to the Saturday half-holiday and that after a few weeks any dissatisfaction will disappear.
