Oil Searchers Arrive

FPer Press Association. — Copyright.] AUCKLAND. This Day, To join in the search, for oil in New Zealand, two petroleum geologists from California. Mr. H. W. Thoms and Mr. A. A. Weymouth, arrived yesterday morning by the Mariposa. They were accompanied by Mr. W. S. Simpson, account manager, who had been associated with the development of the Vacuum Oil Company’s business in Mexico. “There have been great developments in methods of discovering oil,” said Mr. Thoms, “and now it is as easy to bore to a depth of 10,0CK> feet as it was to reach 3000 ft. when I first started geological work. A well today is only beginning to get deep at 10,000 ft." The visitors were met on board by Mr. W. H. Gallaher, chief geologist of the Standard Oil Company, New York, who has been in New Zealand for some time, also by Mr. J. H. Lindon, general manager of the Vacuum Oil Company in the Dominion, and local representatives. Boring equipment weighting 1500 tons on the Mariposa, was described as the largest and most scientifically advanced of its kind in use. The visitors leave for Wellington tonight.
