INTER-CLUB CONTESTS NEARING FINALITY

So closely contested have been the inter-club competitions that the North Auckland Tennis Asosciation finds itself rather embarrassed in getting off all the post-section play before the end of the season. In the B and C grades it is not likely that finality will be reached before' April 23. In Section 1 of the B grade championship, Hora Hora, Matarau and Whangarei each scored fhi'ee wins. Last Saturday Hora Hora eliminated Matarau by eight sets to three, and will meet Whangarei on April 3 to decide which team should meet Bargain Stores, winner of Section 2. in the final.

By defeating Kauri, winning team in Section 4, Stanley Street, Section 3 winners, qualified to meet Kamo in the deciding match for the C title. HORA HORA V. MATARAU. Playing on their home courts. Hora Hora defeated Matarau in, the quar-ter-final of the B grade. 8 sets to 3, 81 games to 61. Three sets were abandoned on account of the weather. Scores, with Hora Hora names first, were:— Men’s Singles—W. Hallett lost to W. Attwood, 4—9; R. Lawrence beat R. Attwood, 9—6. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss D. Mclntosh lost to Miss G. McKegg, s—B;5 —8; Mrs E. Skinner beat Miss N. Attwood, B—3. Men’s Doubles.—Hallett and R. McIntosh beat W. and R. Attwood, 9—4; Lawrence and Nightingale beat G, Attwood and McKegg, 9 —6. • Ladies’ Doubles.—Miss D. Mclntosh and Mrs E. Skinner beat Misses G. McKegg and N, Attwood. B—3; Miss Mclntosh and Mrs E. Combined Doubles.—Miss M. Mogford and Nightingale lost to Miss K. Whimp and McKegg, s—B; Miss E. Burgess and Mclntosh beat Miss Yates and G. Attwood, B—s. WHANGAREI V. KAURI, Whangarei won the right to contest the semi-final' with Hora Horn by defeating Kauri, 8 sets to 0, 68 games to 30. Scores, with Whangarei names mentioned first, are:— Men’s Singles—F. In last night’s report on the tennis match played between Bargain Store and Kamo, which the latter won, it was stated that a protest had been lodged by the Bargain Store team, that at 1.30 p.m. only one member of the opposing team was present. The secretary of the North Auckland Lawn Tennis Association this morning stated that no protest had been lodged, but that a misunderstanding had occurred between members of

the team. C GRADE MATCH, The quarter-final in the C grade resulted in Stanley Street defeating Kauri by seven sets to nil, CfJ games to 21.
