Indian Hockey Team May Play Here

F the Whangarei Hockey Association can obtain some assistance from business people and others it. will definitely apply for- a match with the Indian hockey team, which will visit New Zealand during May. June and July this year. A statement to this effect was made by Mr H. Patterson, secretary of the association, this morning, and he said that the stumbling block at present was the financing of the visit. In all probability, Whangarei would be allocated a mid-week match, and this would cost the association £SO. but. in addition to this, the association would be responsible for the hotel accommodation, entertainment, etc., of i the visitors. j This, it was considered, would j amount to at least £65, which would | mean that about £lls would have to j be found. The New Zealand Association requires that half the money I should be forwarded by April 14, and the balance by April 30. Assistance Required.

■ Mr Patterson, said that the Whangarei association was eager to obtain a visit from the Indians, and he thought that many people in the district and the North would be keen to sec the local representatives in action against the tourists. However, the association had no balance in hand to finance the visit on its own. and some assistance would be required. A special meeting of the emergency committee of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce to meet the emergency committee of the hockey association will be held tomorrow morning to con*

The Indians will arrive in New Zealand on May 11, and sail again on July 26. Three test matches will be played, one at Auckland, one at Wellington and one at Christchurch. His Highness the Nawab of Manavadar, Ruling Prince of that Stale, will accompany the team as captain. The Nawab is an All-India representative and also represented India at the Olympic Games. Other Olympic representatives to accompany the team will be M. Hussein and Shahabuddin.
