“Mum Likes The Page As Much As I Do”
—F. HAZELL.
R.M.D. 111, Kaitaia,
Dear Kupe, Here’s old lazybones again, and haven’t I been brought to earth since you said it would be nice for Correspondence School pupils to write! This is what I heard, not once but many times: —
“Havirt you taken the hint?” “No.” “You must have a hide tike a camel.”
“If I were Kupe, I’d throw you into the Tohunga’s den”—and such like compliments from Mother’, so, thinks I, seeing its a wet day and I’ve no odd jobs to do, I’ll lock my door and give the lady barker (won’t I get my ears pulled if you print this) a surprise. You know, Kupe, I’m not really lazy. I do my bit down the shed, feed the calves and hens, and fill the wood box (when I don’t forget it), and, of course, do lessons as well.
I sat for my proficiency last month, and then I have my flower garden to look after. I’ve had a lovely bed of petunias in bloom since last August. It’s a new garden, so I’m massing everything, as we get such dreadful winds.
The last of those 50 pigs have gone to the works, but there are others to take their place. You see, at long last we have an R.D. Two years ago we put in for it and now we get mail three times a week right to our gate, and, of course, we get the “Advocate” regularly. You know, Kupe, Mum’s just as keen on the children’s page as I am, and quite often she works out the competition. Do you ever get them? I notice she doesn’t get many points. Best wishes to the Princess and yourself, not forgetting the Tolumga, in case I get hauled into his den. Yours sincerely, FRANCIS HAZELL.
