The Church of Sts. Peter and Paul. Puhoi, was the scene of a pretty wedding recently when Edna Catherine, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Remiger was married to Thomas Bernard, youngest son of Mr and Mrs T. O'Carroll, of Maungakaramea. The Rev. Father Skinner was the celebrant of the Nuptial Mass, Mrs Ford the organist, while solos were sung by Miss E. Higgins, of Auckland. Entering the church with her father, the bride wore her cloak of the Children of Mary over a magnolia satin gown cut on classical lines. The bodice, fashioned with a cowled lace neckline, was finished down the back with small satin buttons, while long, close-fitting sleeves, inlet with filet lace, were buttoned to the elbow. The skirt fell gracefully into an oval train, inlet with lace and finished with orange blossoms and a ruched lover’s knot. A second train of handembroiderod magnolia tulle veil fell from a coronet of orange blossoms, The ensemble was completed with an arm sheaf of cream gladioli, carnations and maidenhair fern. Attendant bridesmaids were Misses Dorothy and Sylvia Remiger, Dulcie Scholium and Catherine Remiger. Joy Withers and Rohan O’Carroll acted as
train bearers, and the whole group of attendants looked charming in magnolia stiffened net over silver tissue. Halos of pleated net trimmed with silver flowers were worn and the attendants carried trailing sheaves of deep cream gladioli, carnations and asparagus fern. The flower girls looked very pretty in short frocks, and carrying posies of carnations and sweet peas.
Mr Jack Burch, of Whangarei, attended the bridegroom as best man, while the groomsmen were Messrs C. Scholium. Percy Micklin and Bert Campbell. As the couple left the church, the Children of Mary formed a guard of honour. A reception in the Puhoi Hall followed the wedding ceremony, more than 200 guests being present. They were welcomed by Mrs Remiger, mother of the bride, who wore a frock of old rose French needlerun lace, and a brown picture hat, and carried a bouquet of variegated carnations, roses and maidenhair fern. Mrs O'Carroll, the bridegroom’s mother, wore an'ensemble of black and white cloque, and a black hat relieved with white. She carried a bouquet of red carnations and maidenhair fern. A dance was held in the evening, more than 300 guests being present. The bride travelled in a frock of deep rose flamisol silk, a navy coat, hat and accessories.
