WEALTH OF MAORI RELICS IN SOUTHLAND
[Special To “Northern Advocate”l WELLINGTON. This Day.
During the past five years about 4000 relics have been excavated in different parts of Southland and Canterbury by Mr. J. H. Sorensen, Director of the Southland Museum, Invercargill and his brother, Mr. E. A. Sorensen, Christchurch. Mr. J. Sorensen is at present attending the special course of Instruction being given museum curators at the Dominion Museum and Art Gallery, Wellington, by Mr. Frank Tose, of the Californian Academy of Science. In an interview, Mr. Sorensen stated that Southland was very rich in early historical materials, particularly Maori relics. It was hoped, he said, that one of the finest collections of Maori relics yet assembled would be displayed in Southland’s Museum and Art Gallery when it is erected.
