i'To the Editor). Sir, —I would like to endorse your remarks regardifig the provision of playing fields in Whangarei. Compared with other districts of similar or rather greater size, it might almost be said that there are no playing fields here at all except those which have been established by private clubs. One of the principal drawbacks to Whangarei’s progress is lack of provision. We are all more or less narrow and confined in our outlook. 'This state of affairs is due to the fact that we have never had any competition for municipal supremacy. Within a reasonably short, distance cf each Other towns and cities such as New Plymouth, Wanganui, Napier. Palmerston North, Hastings and Masterton, compete with each other in planning I and procuring. That is why we are so woefully behind them in the provision of town and city attractions. However, your article is on right lines. If you would encourage the younger men of this town to travel to other places and bring back ideas (it is no use sending your older men) for town improvements, you would be conferring great benefits upon Whangarei and its people.--! am, etc..
