IMPORTANT PROVISIONS TANNERS' AWARD

[Special To “Northern Advocate ”l AUCKLAND, This Day.

The first award to be made by the Second Arbitration Court was issued yesterday, it covers the work and conditions c-f the fellmongers, tanners, soap workers and general tannery employees in the Northern Industrial District. The award is to remain in force until December 8. 1938. There are two important points in the award. First, the award shall apply to the original parties named in the dispute, and shall also extend to, and bind, as a subsequent party, every trade union: industrial union, industrial association or employer who, not being an original party to the dispute, is engaged in the industry to which the award applies within the Northern Industrial District.

The second important point is in the operating of the 40-hour five-da;’ week. The present practice as to Saturday work by workers in the starch department shall be allowed to continue. but any work performed on Saturday shall be paid for at overtime rates, which are fixed at time and a half for the first three hours, and double time thereafter
