ASSAULT AND SHOTS AT DUNEDIN
[Per Press Association. Copyright.'] DUNEDIN, This Day. A woman aged 21 years, who was a passenger in a rental car, was seriously assaulted on Saddle Hill Road last night. The car was driven by her alleged assailant. Two motor-cyclists rushed to the young woman’s assistance, and it is allaged the man in the car fired a shot at them and at the woman when she was escaping from the car. The man made off to Dunedin in the car. The woman was taken to a private hospital, where she was found to be suffering from a fractured arm, a wound in the wrist, a dislocated foot, a deep wound in the forehead and a wound in the back of the head. Bullet Wound in Head. , The police investigations led to Waitata, where an abandoned car was found. A woman’s glove and purse were in the car. At 8.15 this morning the police found the alleged assailant wandering near an oil company’s premises with a bullet wound in the head. He was ringing wet, as though he had been in tiie water.
He was not arrested, but was detained at hospital.
The police have not yet divulged the names of the parties.
