Three down for 8; five down ior 205! That epitomises the manner in which Whangarei’s batting rose to a crescendo against the fiddling of Nomads' attack.

Cowan, Angelo and Flower all fell victim to the now ball, and Masters, directly he went in, edged one just short of first slip. It was not a chance, however, and only once during his splendidly aggressive innings did he loft the ball into the hands of a fieldsman, and that right near the boundary, when in his forties.

Masters and Jennings were the stumbling blocks, and most entertaining cricket they turned on in a stand of 116. Although not quite so venturesome as his partner, Jennings finally paid the price of impetuosity, being smartly stumped. Stevenson came to carry on with the good work, in fact to accelerate the scoring rate. Sixers were common when he and Masters were together.

At one stage Masters followed three fours with four hits clean out of the ground.

With a single off Cole, he reached his 100 when the board read 190. Shortly afterwards. Masters mishit Cole, who skittled Stevenson and also accounted for the tail-endcrs.
