Masters First To Break Century This Season

npHL' FIRST CENTURY OF THE SEASON IN THE WHANGAREI CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS WAS COMPILED IN BEAUTIFULLY FREE STYLE BY RON MASTERS OF THE WHANGAREI CLUB.

The effort of Northland’s Rugby captain came when his side had made the worst of bad starts, and when he got set. which was soon after going to the crease, lie hammered the Nomads’ bowling unmercifully, passing the hundred in a little ever an hour and a half.

The third-wicket partnership in which he engaged with Jennings was worth 116. and later Stevenson came in to hit the cover off the hall, so that Whangarei totalled 261. In the remaining 75 minutes. Nomads lost three for 68.

Extraordinarily low scoring was witnessed in the match between Oncrahi and Combined Services, 26 wickets falling for a mere 162 runs. The cricket on adjoining paddocks was a complete contrast, the hall having the best of the argument on No 1. pitch.

Combined Services largely frittered away their advantage of the first innings' lead by conceding six wickets for 35 in their second knock.
