The first day of the Feildmg Jockey Club’s' spring meeting was held on Saturday, in perfect weather. The attendance was .arge and the track was hard and fast Investments totalled £20,259/10/, compared with £17,072 for the same day in 1936. an increase of £3,187/10/. Results:—
Flying Handicap, of 170 sovs.; six furlongs.—(3) Mata Hari, 8.2, 1; (5) Wildflower, 7.2, 2: (4) Relative, 7.0, 3. Scr.; Omarere, Airing. Length and a* half each way. Time; 1.12 1-5.
Juvenile Stakes, of 130 sovs.; two-year-olds; five furlongs. 1.2) Rarotonga. 8.1, 1; (1) Minga, B.G, 2; (5) Toa Iti, 7.12, 3. All started. Half a head; three lengths. Time: 1.1 3-5.
Kowhai Hack, of 150 sovs.; one mile and a distance. — (5) Hunting Queen. 9.3, 1; (1) Middle, 9.4, 2; (9) Bonny Glow, 8.2, 3. All started. Neck; half o length. Time: 2.57 2-5.
Fitzroy Handicap, of 140 sovs.; six furlongs.—(2) Florence Mills, 7.7, 1; (10) Silver River, 7.4, 2; (1) Great Hope, 8.10, 3. All started. Neck; half a length. Time: 1.57 2-5.
Kiwitea Handicap, of 170 sovs.; seven furlongs.— (4) Airing, 8.0, 1; (6) Onewhotu, 9.9, 2; (7) Gay Boy, 8.8, 3. All started. Neck; one and a-half lengths. Time: 1.27 4-5.
