Bay Cricket

All teams in the Bay Association competed in the championship games on- Sunday, in ideal weather conditions. Kaikohe suffered their first defeat at the hands of Moerewa on the latter s ground Although the turf wicket under matting played quite well, with the exception of a few “Eden Parkers,” the. visitors’ batting was all at sea, this being their first game off the concrete. However, there was no excuse for the poor, display. The bowling of Dixon and Rogers, while consistent, was not sufficiently hostile to justify the ,effort of Kaikohe, who incidentally lost six wickets to l.b.w. decisions. H. Hall and P. Williams were the only visiting batsmen to obtain double figures in the first innings, with welldeserved 22 and 16 respectively. In Moerewa’s second innings, J. Dixon batted well for his 55 out of a total of 81. .He played very carefully, showing the full face of the bat to everything on the wicket. There was a margin of only two runs when the last wicket fell. ;r. ■’ ' •

At Ohaeawai, the home team severely trounced,Kawakawa by a margin of an innings and 72 runs. The openers for Ohaeawai, Middleweek and Griffin, put’ up a first-wicket record for the ground by compiling 73 before they were . separated. Davis, Cheeseman and Nicholson were the only Kawakawa batsmen able to face the attack with any confidence. Grice, Obaeawai’s Verity, again appeared unplayable; sending down seven overs, six of which were maidens. Scores:—
