North Auckland Cricketers To Play Auckland Brabin Shield Team At Easter

m

At meetings of the North Auck-r land and Whangarei Cricket Associations held last evening,' motions of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr Ted Dunning, of Rodney, were passed, each gathering standing In silence.

The respective presidents, Messrs F. £1 Cowan and C. H. G. Hedditch, referred to the tragic occurrence and the loss cricketers so keenly felt in the demise of such a fine young man. Mr C. L. Rowe, secretary of the parent body, intimated that he had sent a letter , of sympathy to the parents on/ behalf of Northland cricketers generally and read an appreciative reply.

' The North Auckland Association finalised arrangements Tor the representative match between the Auckland Brabin Shield team and the elect of Northland. The game is to be played at Whangarei on Saturday and Monday. Mr W. J. Dunning (Rodney) was. appointed captain, and Mr C. L. Rowe manager. * The Auckland players are ail under the age of 21, but several are playing in senior cricket and the others are on the border-line. This team defeated the Wellington colts at Christmas for the Brabin Shield. It was decided to advise the Auckland Cricket Association and Poverty Bay that every endeavour will be made to enter a Northland team in the next Country Week tournament, which takes place at Gisborne. i' The question of the grading of players came before the Whangarei Association, but it was decided to leave the matter till two or three weeks before the next annual meeting will be called. It was the general opinion that it would be better to wait till then and so have a better idea of the strength of the respective teams. Letters of protest were received from the secretary and delegate for the Mid-Northern Association at the nen-arrival of the two junior teams for matches at Tapuhl and Hukerenui last week-end. The chairman, Mr giedditch, described it as- a terrible state of 'affairs that the games had been cancelled without letting either the Mid-Northern or Whangarei association know. An explanation is to be obtained from the organiser and a letter of apology sent to Mid-Northern, with an offer of a visit from the Albion senior B team on April 4. The Senior B and junior competitions are to be suspended on Easter Saturday.

Time-limit matches were arranged to take place on April 3 and 10 respectively between the Whangarei Club and the Rest and the Senior A and Senior B reps. Each side is to bat 13 hours. Mr W, Mason, of 'Onerahi, was appointed selector of the Senior B team.
