MADRID, December 9
The threat by the rebel leader, General Franco, to launch a full strength attack against Madrid resolved itself today into, an increased gunfire. The loyalists vigorously responded with their artillery, and with bombing attacks from the air. Their guns are now sufficiently numerous to keep the insurgent front line communications under fire at night, thus shaking the hold of the Moorish legionaries on the University City.
A French air liner in the service of the French Embassy at Madrid was fired upon today by another aeroplane, and was forced down near Pastrana, 40 miles east of Madrid, while en route to Toulouse. Four passengers were wounded.
The loyalist Government Issued a communique stating that the attacking aeroplane belonged to the insurgents.
