Appeal To Parishioners
A special meeting of the parishioners of Christ Church, Whangarei, was held on Wednesday night to discuss the finances of the parish. Owing to the number of people who have left the town in the past year the regular income has necessarily dropped, and the meeting was called to consider ways and means of remedying the position. It was decided to circularise all members of the parish making an appeal for a special Christmas gift to the church to dispose of the immediate needs, and an effort is to be made to obtain more regular subscribers. Last night the sum of £25 was given by those present.
Rubbish Collection.
/ The first extraordinary collection of rubbish organised by the Whangarei Bor ugh Cbuiricil on Monday of this week, met wit ha good response. Old tins, hgdge clippings and even old bedsteads and wire mattresses lined the roads, and so great was the quantity of waste material for removal that the carts worked again yesterday to cope with the overflow. The collection is designed to clean up the town and enable householders to dispose of an accumulation of rubbish Which is too bulky to be accpmmodated in the usual dust bins. The system is under trial until next March, and, in the interim, collections will be made on the second week in each month on dates to be advertised. That there is a need for such a service has been proven this week.
The decision of Henry Wilson to hold a Xmas Fair in conjunction with the sale of the Hamilton stock to relieve the just-before-Christmas rush, was a wise one. The public are showing their appreciation of the opportunity of securing their Christmas requirements at lower prices, while stocks are fresh and varied.
