AHIPARA
CALF CLUB JUDGING. On Wednesday last there were 20 entrants in the senior competition in connection with the Ahipara Native School Calf Club, five in the junior competition, and three in the girls’ competition. The Rev. T. Pohipi acted as judge. There was a good attendance of parents to watch the proceedings. Mataara Paitai's calf was a very presentable animal, while many of the spectators favoured Dick Horsford's entry. The handling of the calves was very good, one boy’s calf following him like a pet dog. The judging resulted in Mataara Paitai being awarded first. Hector Masters second, and Sam Roberts third in the senior competition. In the juniors, Wiri Muru scored an easy first, while the girls' prize was captured by Maude Neepia. A prize was also awarded to Kennedy Tepaina as the youngest competitor. The chairman of the club committee, Mr Chas. Nepia, expressed his thanks to Mr and Mrs Black for providing prizes, and to the judge for his services.
Mr and Mrs Hamilton, of Mercury Bay, have been guests at Miss Reid’s boarding house during the week.
