MARKED INCREASE IN PIG PRICES
GREAT SALE AT KAMO YESTERDAY
The pig sale conducted at Kamo yesterday by the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op., Ltd., was an unqualified success. Double the number of pigs advertised came forward and everything sold under the hamjmer at about 2/ per had above ruling rates.
Heayy baconers showed a marked increase while porkers were also well sought after. Large stores were in keen demand, and another 200 of this class of pig would have met a ready sale. Weaners and slips, although not showing the marked increase of the heavier varieties, sold readily.
Buyers were in attendance from Auckland, Ruawai, Maungaturoto and Dargaville, while several local farmers bought the smaller pigs. Heavy baconers sold at from £3 10/ to £3 12/6; medium, £3 5/ to £3 9/; light, £2 15/ to £3 2/; heavy porkers, £2 10/ to £2 12/; medium, £2 5/ to £2 9/; light, £2 to £2 7/6; large stores, £2 to £2 6/; medium, 35/ to 39/; good slips, 30/ to 36/; small, 24/ to 29/; good weaners, 20/ to 23/; medium, 17/ to 19/6; small, 13/ to 15/6.
So successful was yesterday’s sale, that this firm intends holding another in about a fortnight.
