SUCCESSFUL FLOWER SHOW AT KAEO
The first flower show to be held in Kaeo took place last Thursday and was an outsatnding success, realising £22. It was conducted under the auspices of the Whangaroa branch of •the W.D.F.U. The weather was beautifully fine and better conditions could not have been desired.
Pye’s Hall was taxed for room to accommodate the many beautiful blooms, as well as the visitors. Great credit is due to Mrs Miller, the organiser, who has worked untiringly for some months past to make the show an outstanding success.
A pretty floral dance was performed by a party of small girls in appropriate costumes. This was followed by a procession of cleverly decorated, children’s vehicles and a fine dog in festive raiment.
The show was officially opened by Mr H. Leslie, the chairman of the ccurity council, who congratulated the ladies upon their success and welcomed the visitors.
The Rev. Nicholas (Kaitaia) who did the judging responded on behalf of the visitors, and also gave a short address on points of interest in the choosing of blooms, their arrangement, etc. Mesdames Geard and Wilkinson, of Kaitaia, assisted in the judging. Mrs W. H. Lane, the president of the W.D.F.U. also thanked all for their support. The afternoon tea was provided by the members. The prize. list is as follows: —
