MAORI FOUND DEAD IN WHARE
I Special to "Northern Advocate”] KAIKOHE, This Day. An old-age Maori pensioner, Nitana Maiha, aged 75, was found dead in bed at Kaikohe on Monday, with a severe injury to the forehead. The body was found by another native, who followed the usual practice of taking milk to Maiha, and Constable F. H. McNutt was called, in company with Dr. N. G. McLean.
An inquest was held before the district coroner, Mr T. J. V. Dunlop. It is thought that deceased, who was in ill-health, fell from his bed, striking his head on the corner of a box. He was last seen alive at 11.30 p.m. on Sunday.
Dr. McLean gave evidence that death was due to a depressed fracture of the frontal bone. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
