INCREASE OF CRIME AT AUCKLAND

[Special to “Northern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND, This Day.

Within the past month there have been fourteen burglaries in Auckland. The last occurred on Monday night, when the offices of Cavanagh and Co., Symonds Street, were ransacked for the second time, and robbed of 10/- in cash and £4 in stamps. In the list of burglaries are seven “safe jobs,” and the ransacking of two suburban houses.

This is regarded as an indication that the police force at Auckland is insufficient to cope with the sudden increase in crime. In the detective division, for instance, there are barely sufficient men for routine work.
