ILLICIT IMMIGRATION OF JEWS

ADMISSION TO PALESTINE COMMISSION

(Received 3 p.m.) JERUSALEM, November 30. There was a dramatic quarter of an hour in the session of the Royal Commission! when Earl Peel, chairman, virtually accused a Jewish agency of conniving a large scale illicit immigration of Jews. Dr Shertok. chief of the department of the agency controlling immigration, admitted that Jews had entered outside the quota. The agency did not take steps to deport them. Earl Peel pointed out that the agency had high responsibilities lo aid the authorities in enforcing the law at which it was apparently winking. Dr Shertok said the Government had asked an agency to provide information of illicit immigration. It was decided. after repeated discussion, to do nothing regarding the matter, except lo issue warnings. He added that a Jew would never give away another in such circumstances.
