JAW BROKEN, BUT KEPT FIGHTING

PLUCKY NEW ZEALANDER DEFEATED

[Per Press Association. Copyright .] DUNEDIN, This Day. A professional boxing contest held here last night between Alf Blatch, 9.12£ (Australia), and Don Stirling, 9.12 J (New Zealand), came to an end at the conclusion of the fourth round, when it was disclosed that the New Zealander, for two rounds, had been fighting with a broken jaw. Blatch showed himself to be the cleverest boxer seen in Dunedin for years, and from the opening gong it could be seen that Stirling was no match for him. "In the second round the Australian sent in a driving right to the body, and followed with a left to the jaw. This punch, apparently, did the damage, but Stirling fought cn gamely for another two rounds, when the referee, after a doctor had examined the New Zealander’s jaw, had no alternative but to stop the fight and award the decision to Blatch.

In a preliminary 10-round professional bout, J. Reidy (Invercargill), 9.11, beat J. Kelly (Bluff), 9.10, on points.
