James Dugan, aged 18, who was one of the Crown witnesses in proceedings last week in a case in which three men were charged with the murder of James Edward Scriven, a Titles

Office messenger, on January 31, walked into the casualty department of the Melbourne Hospital late on Saturday night with a superficial bullet wound in one thigh.

Dugan said he was wounded accidentally and declined to state where the mishap occurred.

After treatment Dugan left the hospital in the company of detectives. The youth’s evidence at the trial was that he had repaired the handle of a revolver, which was found after Scriven was shot.*
