EIGHT-HOUR DAY FOR SEAMEN?

GENEVA, October 23.
The Maritime Labour Conference’s first vote on a draft convention apply r ing an eight-hour day to seamen was carried by 57 votes to 17. Thus the necessary first majority was secured. Final adoption tomorrow seems assured.
The result is surprising as it was expected that the 1, voting would be closer. The workers.’ representatives are jubilant. The British Government and employers’ representatives voted against the measure.
