WHANGAREI BASKETBALL
Last, Saturday was an ideal day for all sports, and basketball games were very keenly contested. The following were the results:—
A. Grade. —Lacey Sisters 4, Old Girls B 4; Muriwhenua 6, Bargain Store B 5; Old Girls A 17, Bargain Store A 8; High School B 14, City 11; High School A beat Hikurangi by default.
B. Grade. —Lupton A beat Poroti by default; Ramblers 20, Lupton B 4; High School C 14, Bargain Store C 2; Convent A 27, High School D 6. Of the A grade games, the one most interesting from a spectator’s point of view was that between Muriwhenua and Bargain Store E. The teams were very evenly matched, and Muriwhenua is to be congratulated on their good passing. They showed a decided improvement over previous weeks. Of the B grade matches. Convent A showed the most improvement. Their passing was clean, and once they got the ball they held it. One playex% only, who seemed to be new to the g&me, batted the ball with the open hand. The captain of Convent A should warn her players against over-step-ping the lines and getting out of bounds.
