MR. CHARLES GARDNER WINS AIR CLASSIC

The final stage of the King’s Cup Air Race was flown to-day in gusty wind and showery conditions. The course was 12 circuits of 26 miles. The winner was Mr. Charles Gardner, flying Captain Sir Connop Guthrie’s Percival Vega-Gull. He had received a start of 25 minutes 33 seconds. He averaged 164.5 miles an hour. Flight-Lieutenant Thomas Rose, flying the Countess of Wakefield’s Hawk, with *a start of 11 minutes 25 seconds, and an average of 184.5 miles an hour, was second.
Flight-Lieutenant J. B. Wilson, in Lord Willoughby de Broke’s Double Eagle, with a start of 12 minutes 30 seconds, and an average of 181.1 miles an hour, was third.
The Australian airman, Captain E. W. Percival, scratch, in the Duke of Kent’s Mew Gull, averaged 203 miles an hour and was fourth, in spite of the fact that he flew the last lap at 211 miles an hour, equalling his last year’s record. Mr. C. W. A. Scott, flying his own Miles Falcon, received 15 minutes 55 seconds’ start, and was thirteenth. He averaged 165.5 miles an hour.
In the first stage of the event Captain Pericval was first to complete the first lap of the eliminating contest.
