LORD SEMPILL TURNS BACK
AUSTRALIAN FLIGHT INTERRUPTED
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON. July 11
Lord Sempill, famous British airman, has had to postpone his flight to Australia. He reached Vienna. but later returned to London. On his arrival at Hanworth aerodrome he told the representatives of the Australian Associated Press that they v ere ahead of schedule at Vienna, where it was found that the auxiliary petrol- supply was working unsatisfactorily. The defect could not be rectified without return to England, and it was unsafe to proceed under such conditions, owing to fear of monsoons.
It was expected that the defect would be speedily rectified and the flight would be recommenced on Monday.
An earlier report that an inspection of the plane at Vienna had revealed that a wing fabric had cracked was denied by the airman.
