N.Z.’s Strong Position In Final Test

Heavy Storm Causes Abandonment

I per Press Association.— Copyrtyht.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A HEAVY southerly storm prevented further play in the fourth cricket test, M.C.C. v. New Zealand, and after a conference at noon It was announced that the match had been abandoned. The M.C.C. players leave tomorrow for Wellington, where they will join the Rangitiki for England.

New Zealand at that stage was definitely on top, the position as at stumps on Saturday being;— New Zealand, first innings ... 334 M.C.C., first innings 195 Second innings (for 2 wkts) 142 England opened the second innings quietly, Parks and Barber paying respect to the bowling of Roberts and Blundell. When Cromb and Griffiths took over the attack, however, the batsmen were quick to take advantage of not infrequent loose balls. After the tea adjournment both batsmen helped themselves off poor length balls from Griffiths, but Cromb took over and got Parks leg before. Hardstaff joined Barber and patted his third ball to Elmes. Barber started to run and before he could get back to his crease the ball was in and Cromb had the bails off. Hardstaff and Smith carried on quietly at the beginning, but by 5.25 p.m. they were starting to hit, and the score was then 115 for two. They added another 27 runs before stumps, the total of 142 for two having wiped off the deficit with three runs to spare. M.C.C. First' Innings. Parks, st.
