ELECTRIC POWER IN

NORTH

A suggestion that the North Auckland Electric Power Board should work on a small margin of profit, and fix selling rates at a level which would attract people to change over from (heir present methods to electricity, made by Mr T. R. Overton, engineer, was yesterday adopted by the board, and the following schedule of charges was approved;—

Lighting.

General lighting, whether for domesl.i * or commercial purposes, 7jd per iu.it; minimum charge per month. 4/. If accounts are paid in full within fourteen days a discount of jd per unit will be allowed.

Healing and Cooking

Electric ranges and all domestic appliances capable of being used from heating plugs: First 10 units per month. 3d per unit; second 10 units per month. 2d per unit; thereafter all units per month, h£d per unit; minimum charge per month, 3/. 'Discount the same as for lighting.

Power (other than special contracts). (a) Milking motors.—For all units used per month, 3sd per unit: minimum charge per month, 6/; additional motors for separators, pumps etc., to increase minimum charge by 2/ per motor per month.

| (b) Industrial motors. —First 500 i units per month, per unit; second j 500 units per month, 2£d per unit; thereafter all units per month, 2|d per [unit; minimum charge for any motor, 14/ per month; for motor of 1 h.p. and ! ever, 5/ per h.p. or part thereof; maxijmum charge, 20/ per month. ' (c) Field pump motors. —Quarter h.p., 79/ per annum; one-third h.p., 90/ per annum; half h.p., 100/ per annum. The above flat rates will be subject, (iv to a discount of 10 per cent if account is paid within fourteen days; (2) to being cut off by a time switch, o’’ other device, for a maximum period of 6 hours per day. Where charges for power are made on a unit basis, a discount of id per unit will be allowed if the account is paid within fourteen days.

Water Heating.

(1) Restricted Service.— (a) Where an electric range or milking motor is aiso installed and connected on the same installation, a charge of . 17/ per 100 watts per annum, subject to disconnection by a tirne switch or changeover switch for a period of four hours per day, will be made. (2) Where no electric range or milking motor ts installed on fne same installation, the charge will be of 22/ per 100 watts per annum, subject to disconnection by a time switch or change-over switch for a period of four hours per day.

(2) Unrestricted Service. — (a) Where an electric range or milking motor is also installed and connected on the same installation, a charge of 22/ per j 100 watts per annum. (b) Where no range or milking motor is installed on the same installation, a charge of 27/6 per 100 watts per annum. These flat rates will be subject to a discount of 10 per cent if paid within 14 days. (3) Beach Cottages.—Beach residences, not permanently occupied, will be charged at ordinary lighting and i domestic rates, except that the minimum charge will be 40/ per annum. (4) Refrigerators, fans, vacuum cleaners, battery chargers, irons, etc. — (a) Where used for domestic purposes, the charge will be at heating and cooking rates; (b) where used for J business purposes, the charge will be j at rates for industrial rates, i (5) Shearing machine motors.—Same rate as industrial motors, but subject to a minimum charge of 30/ per annum. (6) Meter rents.—Rent will be paid for one meter only on each service, at the rate of 5/ per annum. (7) Special rate contracts.—The board is prepared to negotiate special | rate contracts, over a given period, I with any approved applicant requiring ! an extraordinary supply of power. ;

In answer to Mr L. W. Nelson, Mr Overton said the scale of charges varied in comparison with boards already established, but that, taken all round, the charges were considerably lower than other boards had charged when first commencing operations. II might be necessary later on to alter the scale, but they, at least, had a basis to work upon. Big consumers would, of course, be on a contract basis and special arrangements would have to be made with them.

The report and scale of charges was adopted without discussion.
