ITALY’S THREAT TO LEAGUE
MORE TROOPS IP OIL BAN APPLIED
[United Press Association.-By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright .] LONDON, February 5. According to the Rome correspondent of the “Daily Express,” the Supreme National Council of Defence has decided that if the Powers at Geneva proclaim an oil embargo against Italy, all the ten classes of conscripts from 1901 to 1910, numbering more than 1,000,000, will be called to the colours.
The Grand -Fascist Council met at 10 p.m. yesterday and did not adjourn until 3 a.m. today.
A communique states that, after hearing: Signor Mussolini’s report on the political and military situation, the council reaffirmed its determination to attain the objectives in East Africa, for which the present military effort was begun.
Further, it determined the lines of Italy’s counteractions, in the event of additional sanctions being enforced. A Geneva message says that authoritative sources consider there is every likelihood of oil sanctions being adopted at an, early date. The Statistics Committee of the League of Nations is at present considering figures indicating that at present Italy has only eight months’ supplies, excluding war requirements.
