KAITAIA FLOOD DAMAGE
TOWN BOARD CONSIDERS QUESTION The Kaitaia- Town Board held ,? special meeting on Monday, following an inspection of flood damage to the streets. All members were present, and, on the motion of Mr J. T. B. Taaffe, who presided, it was decided to write to the Main Highways Board stating that, owing to the serious damage done to all tar-sealing work in the town district, the board considered any further expenditure in the sealing of streets in the area would be useless.
On the motion of Mr J. T. Clark, seconded by Mr D. Archibald, it was decided to apply to the Government for a grant of £SOO to assist in repairing flood damage. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr L. Peace, seconded by Mr D. Rutledge, that a letter be sent to the member for the district pointing out that further erosion had occurred at Bell’s Bridge, which is now practically unusable, and asking him to take steps to have the matter treated as urgent.
The town clerk was asked to draw the attention of the Drainage Department to trees lodged in the river from immediately above the board’s area to above the Waikuruki bridge. It was stated that the official opening of the aerodrome at Waipapakauri would take place on February 27 and it was decided to call a conference of all local bodies so that suitable arrangements could be made.
