AN AUDACIOUS THEFT
74 STUD LAMBS REMOVED
LPer Press Association. — Copyright J DUNEDIN, This Day.
The audacious theft of 74 stud Romney and Border-Leicester lambs, mostly ewes, occurred last week from Wilson’s grazing paddocks, Stirling. South Otago. The lambs were owned by Mr Robert Lochhead, of Ealclutha, and were part of a flock of 200. They were seen grazing in the paddock early in the week. On Wednesday Mr Wilson noticed that there did not appear to be the full number in the flock, and on a muster being made, the shortage of 74 was discovered.
An examination of the paddocks and 'roads showed that some of the lambs had been driven to another field 200 yards further along the road toward Stirling.
j There was evidence that they had I been herded in one corner of one pad- | dock and loaded on to a lorry. 1 The missing lambs are valued at £2 3s each. They are not earmarked, but are branded by a black dot, about three inches in diameter, on the left side. One or two special rams had two red dots on the right side in addition.
The lambs were bred by Mr Lochhead.
The police are investigating the theft.
