COMPETITION CORNER

Just as was expected the Jingle Competition proved most popular. Scores of entries were received, and most of them were quite good. Some competitors did not seem to understand that the last two lines should tiave rhymed, and consequently their (Efforts had no chance of winning a place. It was easy to see that boys and girls are enthusiastic about the “Yo.ung Northlander,” and many compliments were crowded into the last line of the jingle. Norman Graves’ entry ran: Jack and Jill in Northland dwell Their surname (let me add) is Bell * They r ead the Kupe columns through Which each week brings them thrills anew. A newcomer to our page, eight-year-old Mabel Powell, also contributed a good entry:—' . Jack and Jill in Northland dwell Their surname (let me add) is Bell v They read the Kupe columns through And now they want to, join it too. Dorothy Wilkinson’s verse ran: Jack and Jill in Northland dwell - ; Th®ir surname (let me add) is Bell They read the Kupe columns * 1 through And gain both fun and knowledge too. - Shirley Shepherd won the remaining half-crown prize by supplying the line: “I think they’re very wise, don’t you?” It is to the following Northlanders that cash prizes have been awarded: — NORMAN GRAVES.
