NORTHLAND TRIBE

“Advocate” Office, Water St.. Whangarei, Tuesday, February 4, 1936. Hello, Everybody! Do you know that little poem that says: “I know I’m very naughty, but I don’t like cook?” Well, I feel something - like that when I go away for a holiday, for “I know I’m very silly but I don’t like trains.” I know they’re very useful, and the one I travelled on was really quite well behaved —for a train—but still. ... I will say this for it though, it carried me safely to my destination, so I suppose I OUGHT to be grateful. It was great fun meeting old friends and talking over the hoppenings since last we met. ■ Goodness knows there was heaps for me to tell. . . All about the young Northlanders and Our Club and the Badge. Kupe sent me one, along with the mail as he promised, and everyone who saw it, admired it greatly. I really was having a very happy time, but I kept worrying about Headquarters and the staff. Was Kupe keeping his desk tidy? Was the Tohunga over eating? Was the Office Boy. . . . ?” I knew I wouldn’t have a minute’s real peace until I got back, so all in a hurry I packed up and get out for home. I didn’t dare wire Kupe until the very last minute in case he refused to let me return before my holiday was really ended; and just as I expected he WAS rather stern about it. But gracious! I didn’t return any too soon, for the flood came and poor Headquarters got its share of the silt and water, I can tell you. You would have laughed heartily, Northlanders, could you have seen Kupe and the Tohunga, rather scantily clad, rushing wildly about rescuing our club belongings. Fortunately nothing WAS lost and once 1 get the place all nicely clean and tidy 1 shall be perfectly happy again. Cheerio till next week. Princess, Northland Tribe.
