MAROONED TRAIN PASSENGERS $ being marooned for three days at Tahekeroa, two stations north of Helensville, the 55 passengers by train were evacuated at mid-day yesterday. Previously a few had managed to get away by a tramp over country, but the majority stuck to the train. People of the small country district rose to the occasion in the usual Northern hospitable spirit and billeted as many as possible of the children, many of whom were among the passengers.
Food for those who were marooned was obtained from Kaukapakapa.
Among the stranded passengers was a young man travelling to Whangarei for his wedding which is to take place here tomorrow. i.
No doubt he was one of those who breathed a sigh of relief when highwheeled vehicles got through the flooded roa..ds at Tahekeroa to transport the marooned passengers to Helensville. "v
Here some of the passengers went on to Auckland to connect with the Claymore, but the majority, including the train crew, boarded the Kaipara Steamship Company’s vessel, which arrived at Dargaville this morning.
