BRITISH-SOVIET RELATIONS
FRENCH PRESS DEEPLY INTERESTED
(Received 10 a.m.) PARIS, January 31. i The Frefich press is keenly interested in yesterday’s conversations in London between M. Litvinoff (Russia), Mr Baldwin and Mr Eden. “Figaro” says the conversations are the sequel to the recent long private talks at Geneva between M. Litvinoff and Mr Eden. It says they show the importance Russia attaches to her relations with Britain —relations which are becoming closer, in view of their common preoccupation, namely, the question of Germany and Japan. “L’Oeuvre” says M. Litvinoff also attended Mr Eden’s luncheon at the Foreign Office in honour of Marshal Tukachevski, Soviet Vice-Minister of Defence, at which also was Mr A. Duff Cooper. Secretary of State for War. This manifestation of AngloRussian rapprochement is an event of considerable importance. Other French newspapers comment in similar terms. They all emphasise that the relations between Britain and the Soviet appear to be entering upon a phase of greater cordiality.
