WERE STREETS TIDY?
BOROUGH COUNCIL THINKS SO
A statement made in the “Northern Advocate” that the streets in the commercial area of Whangarei were left ii) an untidy condition on Christmas morning was contested by the Borough Council last night. The Mayor, Mr W. Jones, said that he had gone through the town on Christmas morning, seen cleaners at work and knew the criticism to be unfounded. A report from the officer responsible for doing the work stated that, with a companion, and using a cart, he had made a start at 4.30 on Christmas morning and had concluded at 9 a.m.. On the proposition of Cr Morrish the council passed a resolution rejecting the statement and expressing the opinion that the employees had carried out the work efficiently on that morning.
