jpOINTED criticism at the method adopted by the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association in appointing the managers of overseas teams, was expressed last evening at a meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre by the president, Mr W. A. Jenkins, when a reply l was received from the Association to a letter from the centre urging, the claims of Mr E. C. Isaacs as manager of the Olympic team. Mr H. Amos, secretary of the Olympic Council, wrote pointing out that several members of the council had prior claims, which drew from Mr Jenkins the remark that it was about time the Olympic Council was given to understand that all the plums should not go to Wellington, and sporting organisations should take a firm stand. The meeting agreed that the centre should not let the matter rest, but further action was deferred pending advice from the New Zealand Swimming Council, as to what it was prepared to do.

ratepayers yesterday carried a proposal to raise a total of £14,000 for improvement work in the borough, the final count showing 274 for the proposal and 94 against. The poll was a small one, only 368 ratepayers in a total roll of 1500 exercising their franchise. Boisterous weather conditions probably affected the poll.
