The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co. Ltd. reports having held its first sale of the New Year at Cambridge on Monday, when a small yarding of cattle came forward. The entry included a pen of light fat Shorthorn steers, which were keenly sought and sold well. Cow and heifer beef was in moderate supply and values remained firm. Potter bulls and boner cows showed an easing tendency. Stores and weaner pigs sold well, values being well up to December quotations. Cattle: Light fat Shorthorn steers, £8 15/; fat cows and heifers, £4 18/ to £5 15/; lighter, £3 16/ to £4; heavy boners, £2 to £2 15/; lighter, 29/ to 38/; heavy Shorthorn bulls, £7; heavy Jersey bulls, £5 7/ to £6 18/; lighter, £2 13/ to £4 10/; Jersey heifers, running with bulls, £2 10/. Pigs: Medium porkers, 35/ to 37/; lighter, 30/ to 33/; good stores, 25/ to 27/6; good slips, 22/ to 23/6; good weaners, 18/6 to 23/6; smaller, 12/6 to 14/.
At Taumarunui, sheep maintained late rates, while cattle and pig prices were firmer. Fat lamias .made 18/; fat ewes, 18/ to 18/6; fat wethers, 20/ to 22/; old ewes, with 74 per cent, lambs, all counted 9/4. Fat bullocks, £8 9/; steers, £7 15/; fat cows, £3 to £5 19/; empty cows, 35/ tp £2 17/;’hold-over heifers, 30/; yearling heifers, £2 8/; yearling steers, 35/ to 36/; Jersey bulls, £3 6/ to £6 10/; cows in milk, £2 6/ to £2 10/; springing heifers, £2 10/. Pigs: Porkers, 26/ to 34/; baconers, 37/; sows in pig, 20/ to 30/; stores, 15/ to 21/; slips 18/6 to 21/; weaners, 11/ to 15/.
